From the day I started working with brides, I found certain things to be true. The process of planning a wedding was much easier than the industry presents it and finding the perfect vendor comes down to one thing:

Trusting yourself.

When it comes to planning your wedding, if my advice allows you to have fun, learn something, and manage your stress...
then my job is done.

Question:
How far in advance do you have to order a wedding gown?

I am getting married in October and I am not planning to get a custom dress or anything. I am just trying to figure out when I need to order my dress.

Answer:
It takes 12 to 14 weeks to get a gown in.

(4 to 6 months for high end couture lines.) You should order it so it arrives no less than 2 months before the wedding. This will allow time for alterations, portraits (if applicable), and the time to correct any manufacturer defects.

Bride’s Response: Other answers were helpful, but this one seemed to be the most informed.

Question:
Can the mother of the bride wear a wine colored ball gown to an evening wedding? What to wear or not to wear?

I am getting married in October and I am not planning to get a custom dress or anything. I am just trying to figure out when I need to order my dress.

Answer:
Wine is a great color for an evening affair.

Most MOB styles come with a shrug, jacket, or shawl. Don't get caught up in all of the so-called rules. If you are a fab mom, then be one. If you prefer a more conservative style-wear it. If the bride is fine with it, then don't worry about it. If she is happy then who cares. If the bride wants clowns on tricycles then so be it.

If anyone is there to pass judgment or give a Joan Rivers type of review, then they are there for all the wrong reasons. They are there to well wish, eat free food, and have a great time.

Bride’s Response: Great answer - not surprising that the best answer came from "brideguy" and not one of the girls!
